Eindhoven, Netherlands, 04. July 2019.  Starting June 15, intelligent digital tachographs have become mandatory for all new registered trucks. The purpose of this new EU regulation is to further improve road safety, guarantee competition in the European domestic market and prevent the manipulation of digital tachographs.

The new tachograph, integrated in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), helps fleet operators to boost efficiency and stores personal data in its new interface. Regarding the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) this data may only be used for further evaluation and services if the driver approves this action. Astrata’s leading telematics solution is now enhanced with a feature to benefit from the additional capabilities of the DTCO 4.0 tachographs.

When drivers insert their driver cards for the first time, they will be asked about the protection of the personal data by the DTCO 4.0 and whether they agree that this data can be processed. Astrata implemented a warning system that sends an automatic Driver Event Consent message to FleetVisor, Astrata’s leading Fleet Management SaaS platform. This message informs the dispatcher if the tachograph detects that a driver didn’t give consent to process the personal data. This implementation helps transport companies and dispatchers to comply with regulations and will increase the efficiency of their operational process.
